Programs

Children and Youth Welfare Development

In Hospicio de San Jose, abandoned, surrendered, orphaned and neglected children — or those in difficult circumstances – are given the shelter and care they need while we submit documentary requirements for them to be considered legally-available for adoption by the DSWD.

Program for Persons with Special Needs

Persons with special needs – such as the physically and mentally challenged – have found a welcoming home in Hospicio de San Jose. They are categorized according to their level of functionality to ensure that they receive appropriate rehabilitation care.

Program for Older Persons

Especially in poor urban communities, many Filipinos are abandoned in their old age. Hospicio de San Jose has taken many of them under its protection, providing them a nurturing and supportive environment where medical and rehabilitative care, spiritual enrichment, psycho-social support and companionship are available to them.

Crisis Intervention Program – Sanctuary

Temporary shelter for women and children who are victims of abuse and trafficking (i.e physical/ sexual abuse, online/commercial sexual exploitation, organ/labor trafficking, witness of violence) especially those in need of protective custody while  facilitating recovery and rehabilitation.

Crisis Intervention Program – Food for Life

The complexity of today’s world has led to many crises among individuals and families. Some of these crises seem so insurmountable, that people have difficulty coping with them.

Crisis Intervention Program – Tahan

Temporary shelter  for persons/families in crisis situation (i.e pregnant, internally displaced, undergoing medical intervention, for balik probinsya/repatriation.)

Crisis Intervention Program – Transitory Home

Serves as a transitory home of homeless or street families that were from Tahan Center or Food for Life members. Transitory Home is designed as a training ground for homeless or street families in preparation for their transfer to permanent housing and incorporation into the bigger community.

Testimonials

Slide Rhoda Cabanes “Hospicio’s program is perfect. They are able to help people who are totally destitute, as I was. They teach us moral values and skills, and give us jobs. The Daughters of Charity and the staff of Hospicio have good hearts, kind hearts. They are true children of God.” Slide Allan Antonio Allan is so grateful for this leg up in life that he has a message for other homeless people. “I want to tell street dwellers to have a purpose in life, and not to rely on whatever charitable services are at hand but to strive for something stable so they can support their families. I wish they would secure their family’s future, use the help they are given to improve themselves, avoid bad activities and discard negative attitudes. The important thing is to uplift their lives.” Slide Gilbert Esteban “I was grateful that the DC got me. I thank Sr Marcie, Sr. Corrie and Sir Zaldy also. They are have been kind to me. I was working in the garden and climbed up a ladder. It was able to fall, so I jumped 15 feet. My hernia started to hurt. I crawled. I could not walk because of the pain. Sr. Corrie sent me to San Juan de Dios Hospital for an operation. I was confined for three days. I rested and my load was lightened — like I had a family taking care of me here. So I do my best, my way of showing my gratitude.” Slide Carlos Ibrado For more than 30 years, poverty had prevented Caloy, now 50, from visiting his family in Negros Occidental. However, in 2018, he was able to go home for a visit and now plans to return home regularly. To other street dwellers, Caloy advises, “Strive hard, avoid vices and have faith in God.”
